Today is the 225th a
nniversary of the ratification of the United States Constitution, the foundation document of American liberty.
So far, I have seen no comment on it, other than an almanac listing.
I did not expect huge celebrations, but I did think it was at least inside news; that for two and a quarter centuries, we have at least made a halfhearted attempt to use this framework to limit government excesses and protect our freedoms.
Dream on, Harold, it ain’t happening.
The Constitution is dead. Now, what are we going to do about it?
The only thing I heard was that in 2004 Congress passed a law that on Constitution Day teachers in schools receiving federal funds are REQUIRED to teach their kids about the Constitution on Sept 17th. Found details here: http://www.nccs.net/newsletter/apr05nl.html
Hmmmm, think that is Constitutional??
I think teaching the Constitution on Constitution Day is an excellent idea, and should be required … by the state legislatures, A federal requirement is unconstitutional, in my not-so-humble opinion.
